The fair trade jewelry bag is handcrafted by Maya indigenous artisans in Guatemala. The specific artisan group who crafts the jewelry bag is the Chixot group of Comalapa, which is located in the central highlands region. The artisan group is made up of 11 individuals, some men but mostly women. They have incredible sewing skills and take on some of MayaWorks most difficult projects. The jewelry travel bag is a rather difficult product as it has many zippers and the artisans of Chixot handle it with ease. By working in fair trade these artisans receive a fair wage for their work and are also supported through additional trainings to expand their skills.
