Quick Overview

Our new Fair Trade Petate Ikat Photo Album features petate, a natural fiber used in Central American as a bedroll. Petate is woven into rectangular mats and is used for sleeping both inside and outdoors. In some regions the petate is used to dry out squash and other seeds in the sun. Our recycled photo album also features hand-woven fabric in an Ikat design, a very complicated weave that can only be made by the most skilled of weavers. The ikat design is created by Maya artisans in Guatemala using treadle foot looms. The albums are sized to fit 24-4x6 photos. Purchase of this the Fair Trade Recycled Petate Ikat Photo Album directly impacts the lives of the artisans who help to create it, and also improves the lives of their families and the vitality of their community. The Chixot artisans from the central highlands of Chimaltenango in Guatemala handcraft these recycled photo albums. These artisans are extremely skilled weavers and sewers which is why they make the petate photo album since it is a natural material that is challenging to sew. The Chixot artisans craft many of MayaWorks more challenging products such as our water bottle holders, yoga bags and the products in our baby line.
