This Tropicalia Apron is hand woven and constructed by skilled artisans in the community of Xetonox, in Tecpán, Guatemala. This group is made up of 8 female indigenous artisans who speak the native language of Kaqchikel. These artisans are extremely skilled at weaving fabrics on treadle foot looms and also at sewing. They weave many of MayaWorks fabrics and have increased their range of skills to be able to create Ikat fabric which is a beautiful and very complicated design that involves creating figures in the weave. The artisans are able to use their skills, passed down from their ancestors, to be able to bring in a form of income for their families through the sale of their products to MayaWorks. They are proud to offer you their handmade and fair trade Maya products.
