The commuter tote Maya bag is created by the artisans of Chixot who hand weave the fabric and do the construction and sewing on this product. This is a group of 11 artisans, mostly women but also some men, who possess incredible sewing skills. They work on some of MayaWorks most difficult projects. The sturdy design of the Commuter Tote is very difficult and they handle it with ease! The community of Chixot is located in Comalapa which is in the central highlands of Guatemala. These artisans rely on work from MayaWorks to be able to support their families and help sustain their community. They work under a fair trade principle which means they earn a living wage for every product they produce for MayaWorks.
