These beautiful handmade Mayan pillow covers are truly a work of art. Their creation is a collaboration of 3 MayaWorks artisan groups! The weaving of the brocade or fish design is done by the Agua Caliente group located in a rural village in the central highlands of Guatemala. This group of 9 women is extremely skilled at weaving intricate designs on treadle foot looms.
The striped fabric that accents the center piece is hand woven by the artisans of Xetonox. Xetonox is a group of 8 artisans who are located in the department of Chimaltenango, also in the central highlands of Guatemala. Very talented at weaving they excel at creating this beautiful striped fabric.
The sewing and construction of the pillow is done by the Tzanjuyu group of San Juan Comalapa. This is a group of 9 very skilled artisans. All of the artisans are paid a fair wage for their work and work under fair trade conditions.
