This fun children’s wallet is made by the artisans of Chixot. These artisans live in the Comalapa area of Guatemala which is located in the central highlands. The artisans possess incredible sewing skills and while the group of 11 is mostly women, there are also a few men. The children’s wallet on a string is a difficult product in terms of sewing because it contains many zippers, Velcro and pockets. Because of their incredible skill the artisans have perfected this product. MayaWorks provides the artisans of Chixot with a fair wage for their work and additionally supports them with skills & literacy trainings, scholarships to send their daughters to school and microcredit loans to start their own small businesses.

  • This charming Guatemalan Wallet on a String is handmade by Maya artisans in Guatemala. This fair trade wallet is designed for ages 8 and above with its colorful design, but it is also often used by adults! Outside features traditional hand woven fabric in either red or blue and the top black flap is decorated with either an embroidered butterfly, flowers or the image of children holding hands around the world. Outside features one top pocket and inside contains a zippered compartment for change and bills and open pockets that can fit credit cards or an ID. Velcro closed in the inside as well as the outside to securely hold your items. Measures 4.5” by 4” when closed and has a 19” strap from drop. Strap is black woven cord and is great for wearing around your neck!
