The Guatemalan Beaded Flower Power Necklace is designed and handcrafted by Maya artisans on the shores of Lake Atitlán in Santiago Atitlán. Approximately 30 hardworking artisans handcraft MayaWorks beaded jewelry using glass beads from Czechoslovakia. Santiago is inhabited by indigenous Mayas that speak the Mayan language Tz'utujil. Artisans from this town are known for their expert weaving, embroidery, and beading skills. The women who bead items for MayaWorks have perfected their skills over 15 years. Each necklace is made with care by the women of Santiago Atitlán who receive a fair wage for their work, literacy trainings, as well as professional skills trainings.
